SPORTS BRIEFS: St Xavier's, LA in semis

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Host St Xavier´s, Godavari and defending champion Little Angels´ School (LA) on Tuesday reached the semifinals of the 16th National Father Moran Memorial Invitational Boys´ Football Tournament.



St Xavier´s thrashed Nepal Don Bosco 6-0 on Tuesday to secure a semifinal berth. [break]



Mausam Shrestha and Raj Kumar Tamang scored a brace each for the winning side while Sampurna Baniya and Sujan Tamang added one each. Meanwhile, Rahul Khadka scored the decisive goal as LA beat St Xavier´s, Jawalakhel. Likewise, Nepal APF School defeated Dolphin 2-1 while Pushpanjali edged past Tipling School, Dhading 2-0. St Xavier´s, Godavari will take on Pushpanjali while Nepal APF will face LA in the semifinals to be played on Thursday.



GEMS, Vanasthali register wins


KATHMANDU: GEMS and Siddhartha Vanasthali won their respective matches in the Inter-school Boys´ Football Tournament on Tuesday. GEMS demolished Chelsea 8-0 in the match played at Gyanodaya International Residential School. Bijay KC and Saurav KC completed hat-tricks for the winning side. Meanwhile, Sunil Lama scored the decider as Siddhartha Vanasthali beat St Xavier´s, Godavari 1-0.



Nobel, NASA in final


KATHMANDU: Nobel Academy has set up a final showdown with NASA International College in the Second KIST Inter-college Girls´ Basketball Tournament. Nobel thrashed Bagmati 40-12 while NASA pulled off a 41-39 victory over Morgan in the semifinal matches played on Tuesday. The final will be held on Wednesday.



Sankata, Chyasal share points

KATHMANDU: Sankata Club and Chyasal Youth Club settled for a 2-2 draw on Tuesday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League football tournament. Sankata took the lead through Yudi Gurung in the 11th minute but Bhola Byanjankar scored the equalizer for Chyasal in the 30th minute. In the injury time of the first half, Rishi Rai again put Sankata in front.



However, Sankata could not hold on to its lead for long as Kiran Kumar Tamang leveled the score again in the 69th minute. Following the draw, Sankata climbed to the second spot with 12 points while Chyasal is in the ninth position with 10 points. Meanwhile, Pulchowk Club beat Gyan Bhairav 1-0 in another match played at Nepal Police Training Center, Maharajgunj. Narad Prasad Adhikari scored the only goal for Pulchowk in the 13th minute.
