Krishna Gopal Shrestha scored twice as Saraswoti beat Church Boys United 2-0 in the first quarterfinal match of group B.[break]
Both the goals came during the second half. Shrestha opened the scoring seven minutes after the interval and added another in the 78th minute to seal their victory.
Shrestha was adjudged the-man-the-match. He received a gift sponsored by ATTSH. Bauddha Football Club will take of NASA Int´l College during the last quarterfinal match to be played Monday at 9:00 am.
Daffodil, Wilson set up title clash
Daffodil and Wilson on Sunday set up the title clash under boys´ section in the second Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball tournament. In the first semifinal match of the day, Daffodil had a hard-fought 52-50 win over the hosts, NIMS A. Kiran Sherpa of Daffodil and Tshering Sherpa of the hosts netted 20 points each. In the other semifinal, Wilson put an end to Skylark´s tournament run with a convincing 69-39 win, riding on 17 points of Pema Danial. The final match will be played on Monday.
Double gold for Chunara
Gyani Chunara of Bijeshwari on Sunday won double gold in the Valley-wide School-level Athletics Tournament being held at the Dasharath Stadium premises. Chunara won gold medals in girls´ 100 m race and high jump. Dipti Yadav of Nightingale and Babita Thapa of Bijeshwari secured second and third positions in the race, while Rozee Vasim and Shova Shrestha finished second and third in high jump, respectively. In boys´ 100 m race, Nisan Acharya, Sumit Chaudhary and Amar Chaudhary took the top three honors, respectively. In girls´ 1500 m, Dipesh Somau, Buddha Kumar Ghising and Man Bahadur Shrestha claimed the top three spots, respectively. Under women´s race in the same category, Sharmila Shrestha, Rina Kapali and Binita Shakya claimed the top three positions, respectively. The event is organized by Madan Bhandari Sports Academy.
Tamrakar duo clinches badminton title
The pair of Srijan Tamrakar and Shrawan Tamrakar from Prayag Pokhari Badminton Club on Sunday clinched the title of the Lalitpur District-wide Friendly Open Men´s Badminton Championship. The Tamrakar duo had a 21-15, 21-15 straight sets win over Kamal Shakya and Suroj Maharjan´s pair from Remix Badminton Club. The winners and runners-up bagged a purse of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000, respectively. Suresh Basnet and Anup Basnet´s pair from Srijansheel Unique Club and Lal Bahadur Gurung and Sriman Gurung´s pair from Nakhipot Badminton Club finished joint third. Both the teams received a cash prize of Rs 3,000 each. Nepal Badminton Association President Prakash Bahadur Shahi, among others, distributed prizes to the winners.
South Siders basketball kicks off
The hosts South Siders, NASA and Golden Gate Club made winning starts in the Second South Siders Open Basketball Tournament that kicked off on Sunday at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall. The hosts eased past Princeton 78-34. Sanjay Byanjankar of the hosts topscored with 14 points. NASA outclassed Bhanimandal 87-33 riding on 25 points of Rabin Khatri. Likewise, Golden Gate hammered Norbulingka 97-10.
