Likewise, Nepal Police Club´s Nisha Tamang won the title in the women´s open category. Tamang beat Sarita Pariyar (Bhairahawa) in the final. Jyoti Lama (Lalitpur) and Ganga Chaudhary (Nepalganj) jointly stood in third position.
Birman Lama won the final against Indra Tamang in men´s 65 kg weight category while Kanchha Lal Waiba won the title of men´s 55 kg.
Balaju-do awards karateka
KATHMANDU, March 13: Balaju Karate-do felicitated medal winners in karate at the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) on Saturday.
Gold medalist Sunil Lama was awarded Rs 100,005 while two other gold medalists -- Binod Shakya and Ganga Adhikari -- were awarded Rs 15,500 each.
Lama, who is a product of Balaju karate-do, was awarded with the special prize along with silver medalist Anu Adhikari. Adhikari, who also learned her karate lessons at Balaju, bagged Rs 50,005. Meanwhile, silver medalists Binod Maharjan was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,500.
Likewise, Kushal Shrestha, who won two bronze medals at the 11th SAG, bagged Rs 7,505 while his teammates in men´s team kata Ganesh Bahadur Thing and Parshuram Bastola got Rs 5,005.
At the program, senior sports journalist Shyam Chitrakar was also felicitated with lifetime achievement award and Rs 10,500 cash. Member Secretary of National Sports Council Hari Babu Chaudhary handed over the prizes to the players and Chitrakar.
Meanwhile, Satyal Publications awarded taekwondo gold medalists -- Deepak Bista and Ayasha Shakya -- with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each. Likewise, silver medalists Kumar Manandhar and Manita Shahi received Rs 5,000 each while bronze medalists Dan Bahadur Airee and Yan Kumari Chaulagain got Rs 3,000 each.
Minister for Youth and Sports Ganesh Tiwari Nepali and chairperson of the publication Ajay Satyal handed over the award to the players.
Siddhanath, NCC in volleyball final
KATHMANDU, March 13: Siddhanath Multiple Campus, Kanchanpur, set a clash with Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC), Minbhawan, in the final of the Benoj Memorial Inter-college Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Revolutionary Free Students´ Union Council.
Siddhanath defeated Tikapur Campus, Kailali, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16 in the semifinal played at the TU Court, Kirtipur, on Saturday.
Likewise, NCC thrashed Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara, 15-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 to book a berth in the final.
