Defending champions Unique ´A´ thrashed NOBS 34-11 in the semifinal played at their home court in Siphal on Friday.
Binup Maharjan scored 23 points for the winners. Meanwhile, NIMS struggled past Unique ´B´ 28-27. In junior boys´ category, Wilson beat Neric 35-25 while Daffodil defeated Unique 34-20 to book the semifinal berths.
Kotdevi win opener
Kotdevi School defeated High Land School 6-0 in the opening match of the Fifth FECA Cup Football Tournament at Purano Sinamangal, Kathmandu on Friday. Khil KC and Nabin Subba scored two goals each while Samar KC and Basu Shrestha added a goal each for the winners. Altogether 16 teams have participated in the tournament organized by Fair Educational Competitors Association. The final of the knockout tournament will be played next Saturday.
Boys´ basketball begins
VS Niketan, Morgan, Xavier International and Rato Bangala won their respective matches on Friday in the Higher Secondary Inter-college boys´ Basketball event of a month-long sports program organized by Madan Bhandari Sports Academy. VS Niketan thrashed Golden Gate 56-28 while Morgan beat Ace College 44-35. Likewise, Xavier defeated CCRC 52-33 and Rato Bangala eased past KISC 36-26. The month-long program, inaugurated by Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari, includes competitions of different levels in 10 different games.
Lama wins gold
Nepali karateka Sandesh Lama won a gold medal in the opening day of the Third Asian Goju-ryu Karate Championship on Friday. Lama won the gold in the kumite event of 11-year cadet boys´ category after defeating Harmandeep Singh of India in the final at the National Sports Council Covered Hall.
Shankar Sarki from Nepal won the title in the nine years cadet boys´ category of kumite event after defeating compatriot Sandeep Magar. Nelson Namu of Singapore stood third. Nepali player Manisha Thapa won gold in senior girls´ individual kata while compatriot Ashish Giri won the first prize in junior boys´ kata.
Indian Guru Pungavan won gold in 10-year cadet boys´ category of kumite while his compatriot Payal won girls´ kata in 9-13 year cadet group.
