Pasang Sherpa contributed seven points in Daffodil´s victory. Similarly, Neric and Siddhartha Vanasthali emerged victorious in boys´ basketball. Neric saw off Little Angels´ 42-31 with 13 points from Deepak Khatri. Siddhartha Vanasthali registered a comfortable 40-24 win over Innovative. Narayan Khadka netted 18 points for the winning side.
Big wins for NIMS, LRI
KATHMANDU: Galaxy, The Excelsior, NIMS and LRI emerged victorious on Monday in senior boys´ category during the First The Excelsior Cup Basketball Tournament being held at the Excelsior court in Swayambhu. Galaxy thrashed New Arunodaya 42-20 with 18 points from Dhirendra Raut. The Excelsior outplayed Whitefield 31-15. Bikki Gurung scored nine points for the winning team. Arjun Thapa netted 19 points to help NIMS dispatch GEMS 57-28, while LRI thumped Deneb 53-20 with 31 points from Nikesh Rai.
In junior boys´ section, Deneb saw off Whitefield 27-11 and Daffodil eased past Baba 35-19. In junior boys´ five-a-side football, GEMS and Daffodil won their respective matches. GEMS thrashed Brihaspati 4-1. Niran Thapa and Ishwar Gurung scored a brace each. Meanwhile, Bivek Lama scored the lone goal as Daffodil beat The Excelsior B 1-0.
Maharjan wins
KATHMANDU: Bijay Maharjan emerged victorious in the fifth round of the Fourth Mumbai Mayors´ Cup Open International Chess Tournament being held in Mumbai, India on Monday. Maharjan defeated Segwankar Akse of India to take his tally to 2.5 points. However, three other players -- Prachandaman Malakar, Ashanarayan Lawat and Govinda Khadka -- from Nepal were defeated on Monday. Malakar lost to Abhishek Kelkar, Lawat was defeated by Prahlad K and Khadka lost to Patrick D Souza. Malakar has 2.5 points, Lawat has two and Khadka 1.5 points.
