Oasis, RIBS into Pre-quarterfinals
KATHMANDU: Oasis, RIBS and Baba entered into the pre-quarterfinals of the Seventh Valley Public Inter School Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Oasis defeated Daffodil 32-23 while RIBS edged past Rupy´s 43-37. BABA beat Galaxy 48-40 as GEMS thumped Swati Sadan 21-9. Likewise, The Excelsior defeated Angel Lord 32-29 and Deepjyoti outclassed Texas 35-23. In girls´ section, Chandbagh defeated Oasis 20-6.
NVA Volleyball from Saturday
KATHMANDU: Nepal Volleyball Association informed on Tuesday that the First NVA Cup, the women´s and men´s national club-level tournament, would kick off on Saturday. According to NVA President Dan Bahadur Tamang, 11 teams in men´s section and six teams in women´s section are participating in the tournament that will be conducted in the National Sports Council Covered Hall Tripureshwar.
Winners of both the sections will receive Rs 100,000 while the runners-up will bag Rs 50,000. The third place team will get Rs 25,000 while the most-valuable-players of both the section will receive Rs 10,000.
Orient, Army School win
KATHMANDU: Orient and Army School, Bhaktapur won their respective matches on Tuesday in the First TIA 9-a-side Inter School Football Tournament. Orient edged past Asian 5-3 as Ashish Thapa scored a hat-trick as well as Diksan Limbu and Desh Bahadur Khatri netted a goal each for the winning side. Prashant Tamang scored two goals and Saujay Tamang netted a goal for the losing side. Army school defeated Pashupati 3-1 as Roshan Rai scored a brace and Suresh Bhujel added a goal for the winner. Nir Rana Magar scored a consolation goal for Pashupati. Meanwhile, Nepal Police School beat British Gurkha Academy 4-1 on Tuesday in another first round match of the tournament, organized by Trungram International Academy. Likewise, Pinnacle Academy booked its berth in the second round.
C div clubs to get Rs 75,000 for preparation
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has decided to provide Rs 75,000 as preparation fee for teams participating in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull C Division Football League to be held in the capital from September 5 to 19. Among the 14 third tire clubs, 13 teams will be contesting in the tournament, a press statement released by ANFA stated.
The winner of the tournament will be elevated to B division for next year while the bottom two teams will be relegated to C division. The winner and the runner up teams will receive Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively. Best coach and the best players in four different positions -- goalkeeping, defending, midfield and forward -- will be awarded with Rs 10,000 each.
