NPC, Army clinch titles
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) clinched the title of 13th Women´s National Kabaddi Championship on Friday while Nepal Army claimed the title of 19th Men´s National Kabaddi Championship. NPC pulled off a thrilling 11-10 victory over Army Club in the women´s final. Far-western Region and Mid-western Region took home bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Army beat Western Region 35-18 in the men´s final while Central Region and Far-western Region finished as bronze medalists. Both the winners bagged a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each while the runners-up received Rs 15,000 each. Jay Bohara of Army and Netra Thapa of NPC were adjudged the best players in the men´s and women´s section respectively.
HIMS defends title
KATHMANDU: Himalaya International Model School (HIMS) defended the senior boys´ title in the 11th Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Friday. HIMS defeated Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) 53-44 in the final as Dawa Jhangbu Sherpa scored 27 points for the winner. Sherpa was adjudged the most valuable player of the section.
Likewise, Neric beat Golden Peak 45-38 in the junior boys´ final as the most valuable player of the section, Manoj Khatri, scored 19 points for the winning side. Gyanodaya won the girls´ title beating Daffodil 26-20. Gautami Bhattachan of Gyanodaya won the most valuable player award.
National seals easy win
KATHMANDU: National Campus thrashed Cambridge 92-16 to seal in boys´ basketball during the HISSAN Sports and Extra Activities Meet on Friday. Likewise, Trinity edged past Angels´ Heart 48-14, GoldenGate thumped KMC 65-26 and Times beat Nobel 40-27. Meanwhile, VS Niketan pulled off a 59-48 victory over Global while Xavier International outclassed Pentagon 63-16. In other matches, Prime defeated Premier 48-29 while Whitehouse beat Little Angels´ 27-24.
India bags three golds
KATHMANDU: India clinched three gold medals in the First Open JSKF International Karate Championship in Kathmandu on Friday. Sirangi Jat claimed gold in single kata event of girls´ 12-year age group in the tournament organized by Sotokan Karate-do Association Nepal. Likewise, Pradiyot Sharma won single kata event of boys 18-20 years´ age group while Mohini won gold in the same event of girls´ 20-year age group.
Greenland, TIA reach QF
KATHMANDU: Greenland Academy and Trungram International Academy (TIA) have reached the quarterfinals of Kathmandu Valley´s northern zone qualifiers for the Second U-14 Inter-school National Basketball Tournament. Greenland defeated BST 25-10 on Friday while TIA beat Himalayan 21-12. Likewise, Nepal-Japan edged past Forward 19-17 and Brihaspati beat Bhadrakali 14-11 to enter the last eight.
Meanwhile, Shuvatara defeated Moonlight 20-10 and Ideal Model thrashed Sudesha 38-10 in the southern zone qualifiers. In the western zone qualifying tournament, Siddhartha Vanasthali beat Intensive 22-14 on Friday while Rara Hill outclassed Saraswati 33-21. Similarly, New Zenith pulled off a 27-24 victory over Mt Glory while Wilson Academy thrashed Swarnim 77-26.
Int´l volleyball in Dharan
DHARAN: Eastern Region Volleyball Association organizing the First Easy Riders International Women´s Volleyball Tournament in Dharan from Sunday.
Organizing a press conference on Friday, the association informed that the participating teams have started arriving in Dharan. The tournament will be conducted at the Public Higher Secondary School Ground. The final match will be held on Thursday.
According to Bishwaraj Dhimal, president of the organizing committee, altogether seven teams, including two from India, are participating in the tournament. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 105,000 while the runner-up will get Rs 50,000.
According to tournament coordinator Thaman Gurung, the sponsor Easy Riders will provide Rs 700,000 for the tournament.
