KATHMANDU, April 3: A delegation of Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Friday urged Speaker Subas Nembang to take immediate initiatives to make the hearings on effective.

The delegation led by committee Chairman KB Gurung claimed that the 15 day time given to the committee was not enough to probe into the complaints filed against the nominees for top government jobs. The delegates also complained that the provision related to decision-making process was also impractical.

“If only one member out of 71 accepts the nomination, arguments of 70 others are meaningless, said a delegation member Keshav Mainali. “We urged the CA chair that the presence of at least 50 percent members mentioned as mandatory to sit for a meeting has led to further complications,” said Mainali. “Attendance of at least 36 members has forced us to defer the meetings.”

In response, Nembang said he would consult with major political parties to decide what should he do to make the hearing process effecting and meaningful.

The special committee on Wednesday had decided to hold talks with the speaker to find out the ways to make the hearings more than ritual after the members concluded that complaints against Nepal’s envoy-nominees were serious in nature but the committee can not reject even a single name.
