KATHMANDU, Feb 23: The Federal Socialist Forum and Naya Shakti Party have protested the announcement of local poll date.

In a joint press statement today, both parties said the election date was declared without creating a favorable ground for the same and demanded that constitutional lapses should be addressed first before going for the election.

"Both parties believe that the greater acceptability of the constitution must be ensured to end the political stalemate that is surfaced in the country with the promulgation of the constitution," the statement added.

The parties further articulated the need for passing the constitution amendment bill with revisions, holding the federal and provincial elections first and determining the number and boundary of autonomous, protected and special areas and then carrying out further state restructuring on the basis of population.

The local level should be under the subordination of the province, the parties demanded, seeking the withdrawal of the local poll date which according to them was announced just keeping the interests of the major political parties in the centre.

Calling for the adoption of directly-elected executive system, the parties insisted that the election of federal parliament should be held on the basis of full proportional system for 'political stability'.

The statement is signed by Forum Chair Upendra Yadav and Naya Shakti Party coordinator Dr Baburam Bhattarai. RSS
