KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Budhanilkantha, on Sunday arrested a 65-year-old man on the charge of raping a minor girl from Budhanilkantha Municipality-4 of Kathmandu District.
According to Inspector Ramesh Bahadur Pal, in-charge of Sector Office Budhanilkantha, the police arrested the man one day after the incident based on the statements from the nine-year-old victim, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The accused, identified as Ram Bhakta Shrestha, hails from Nuwakot and had been living in the same area as the girl.
After the girl's parents found her naked and in pain, they grew suspicious but under pressure from a few locals they took the girl to the hospital without reporting the matter to the police.
“Our staff at the TU Teaching Hospital learnt that the girl was raped,” Inspector Pal said.
As per the statements from the girl and her parents, the man lured her with the promise of giving apple and sweets while her parents were away from their rented room, the police said.
The accused is in the custody of the Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Maharajgunj, which is investigating the case. The police are awaiting the medical report.
