KHOTANG, August 19: Three women including a 17-year-old teenage girl were gruesomely murdered in a period of six months in the district.
Rita Tamang, 17, of Khotehang Rural Municipality-9, had been found murdered at Kusheaunshi jungle in Simpani, 40 meters below the path on February 8.
She had head and chin injuries while her left eye was badly damanged.
Circumtantial evidences such as crushed grasses indicate that she must have been raped before being murdered.
Police clueless about gruesome murder of teenage girl
Similarly, on May 30, 57-year-old Gyani Maya Bishwokarma of Haleshi Tuwachung Municipality-7, was hacked to death while she was returning home after collecting cattle fodder. The incident site is just five minutes’ walk from Area Police Office, Mahadevsthan.
Likewise, 37-year-old Devi BK of Jante Dhunga Rural Municipality, was gruesomely murdered on July 20. BK was was returing home from her maternal house in Dambarkhushibalaya when she came under attack.
Her body was found 500 meters below the path, with half naked below her waste. Her head was bleeding.
The circumstial evidences of all the three crimes look similar in nature. Despite efferts by the police, they have been clueless about the crimes so far.
Despite voices being raised by district lawmakers demaning that the guilty be booked, the police have not arrested anyone yet.
After the Distict Police Office remained clueless about Tamang's case, Regional Investigaiton Team (RIT) had carried out an investigation into it on March 9, 2017.
DPO, Khotang also called on the Zonal Police Office, Rajbiraj to send a probe team to look into the case.
On February 28, 2017, Inter-Party Sanjal had drawn the attention of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) toward Rita’s murder.
The family members are sad after the police failed to find the murderers of Rita, Gyanimaya and Devi.
On the other hand, the police have been blaming locals for their non-cooperation during investigation into the cases.
