Singh, Gurung discuss bilateral ties

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Indian Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh, who arrived here on Monday on a four-day official visit, and Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung discussed issues to strengthen bilateral ties between the two armies of the two neighboring countries.



According to a statement issued by Nepal Army (NA)´s Directorate of Public Relations, the discussion between the two army chiefs took place at the Army headquarters.[break]



Brigadier General Mahesh Bikram Karki, on behalf of the NA, briefed Singh about the responsibilities carried out by the NA in terms of its participation in development activities, conservation of natural resources, UN peacekeeping missions and fighting possible terrorist activities along Nepal-India borders, added the statement.



President Dr Ram Baran Yadav will confer the title of honorary general of the NA on Singh amid a function at Shital Niwas on December 22. This is a six-decade-old practice between the two armies of the two neighboring countries.



Singh will return home on December 23.
