ROLPA, Jan 25: Shortage of drinking water has been seen in Rolpa in the absence of timely maintenance of water projects.

Consumers have complained that the maintenance of old water projects could not take place for long due to budgetary constraint, forcing the people to wander for hours in search of water.

Besides, other natural water sources have started running dry due to the impact of climate change. The Rolpa folks have to walk up to one and half hours to fetch drinking water from rivers and streams. Daily life of the people here has been affected following the scarcity of water, shared one Yam Kumari Oli of Mijhing-5.

Lack of timely maintenance of district-based water projects has hampered the water supply, said Man Prasad Ranamagar of Mijhing-5. There is one public water tap for eight to ten households and one has to wait for hours to fill a water jar, he shared.

Old water projects based in the district are in the dire need of repairing, but there is no budget to mend them, said Drinking Water and Sanitation Sub Division Office Rolpa. RSS
