The three-storied house of Parba Damai located at Bharta-1 collapsed at 11 pm Monday killing three of the Damai family and four family visitors. [break]
Among those dead are Parba´s 10-year-old son Raj, seven-year-old son Ali and four-year-old daughter Kali, according to Kalikot police. Also killed were 37-year-old Kashi Damai, his 30-year-old wife Nani Damai, apart from the couple´s son and daughter Kali and Dharma.
Ten people were sleeping in the house when it collapsed. Police and locals successfully rescued three people. Among those rescued are 40-year-old Parba, 30-year-old Harishobha Damai and Kashi´s son 12-year-old Nam Damai.
The three have received minor injuries and are undergoing treatment at local health post, according to the deputy superintendent of police in Kalikot, Mohan Pokharel.
The three were rescued by a 15-member police team led by Sub-Inspector Hari Karki, a team from a police post in Bharta, and locals.
It takes five hours on foot to reach the village from district headquarters Manma.
According to DSP Pokharel, a team including representatives of District Administration Office, District Police Office and Red Cross left for the village Tuesday morning with relief supplies and doctors.
