Seven detainees flee jail with 'poilce help'

CHITWAN, Jan 20: Seven detainees have escaped from the prison located at District Police Office (DPO), Hetauda on Friday morning.



A source at the DPO said the police on duty helped them to cut the ventilation of the cell where the detainees were held. “The preliminary investigation shows that all the detainees ran away with help from police,” said DSP Ram Kumar Thapa. [break]



Shyam Khadka, the chief of the DPO, said the detainees ran away from the prison by cutting ventilation of police office and prison.



Those fleeing have been identified as Milan Pandey, Arjun Shah, Chandra Shekhar Gupta, Gul Mohammad, Santa Sharma, Subash Mohammad and Nek Mohammad. All of them were arrested on charge of drug smuggling and were remanded in custody for further investigation.



However, two detainees who were with them in the prison didn´t escape.



The DPO, Hetauda, has initiated action against six police personnel including head constable Kumar Rawat on suspicion of their involvement in the incident. The other police personnel facing action include constables Kamal Dev Yadav, Deepak Kumar Khatri, Gulab Chand Sarda and Gunja Kumar Thakur, informed DSP Thapa.



Altogether 130 police personnel, including followers, are on duty at the DPO, Hetauda.
