BIRGUNJ (PARSA), May 31: After three cadres of the CPN (Bahumat) physically abused two judges at the High Court Janakpur's temporary bench in Birgunj, the Parsa police tightened security inside the court premises.

The police replaced the personal security officers (PSOs) assigned to all 14 judges and deployed additional security personnel to strengthen protection.

On Thursday afternoon, around 4 PM, the three cadres assaulted judges Dr Khusi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan inside the courtroom.

The police arrested the accused cadres—Garbhu Mahto from Golbazar, Siraha; Padam Bahadur Magar from Barahathawa, Sarlahi; and Kishor Kumar from Pyuthan—within the court premises.

Gautam Mishra, Chief of the Parsa District Police Office, said the police sent the accused to Parsa District Court on Friday to request a remand extension. "They entered the court under the pretext of having snacks and took advantage of the opportunity to assault the judges," he explained. "We have sent the accused to court for a remand extension."

He added that the police will investigate the accused on charges including contempt of court, cybercrime, and disorderly conduct.

Previously, each judge had one PSO, and about a dozen security personnel guarded the court premises. After the incident, Chief Mishra said police increased security measures at the court.

"We replaced all 14 judges' long-serving PSOs with new personnel," he said. "We are also increasing police deployment to strengthen court security further."
