MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 24: Security in Kanchanpur district has been beefed up with the arrival of Dashain, the greatest festival of the majority Hindus of the country.
Security bodies in the district said they are actively working to minimize various types of crimes, including robbery, theft, and fraud among others. According to District Police Office (DPO), Kanchanpur, they have established additional checkpoints in various areas of the district to ensure that crime rate remain checked.
“We have increased security during the festival as compared to normal times. We are strictly monitoring the movements of people for the safety of the general public,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Prakash Bahadur Chand, chief of the DPO. “We do not want the public to feel unease during festive times. With that in mind, we have brought campaigns like 'Police in our community',” he added.
Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are involved in patrolling and other activities in their own way but in a coordinated manner. A meeting between heads of security bodies on Wednesday had agreed to roll out special security campaign during the festival.
Chief District Officer Manohar Prasad Khanal of Kanchanpur said the security bodies have already been instructed to maintain peace and security during the festive season. “We have increased police team and regular patrolling,” he added.
The DPO said security has been beefed up especially in the district headquarters where people's movements are the highest. Police in plain clothes has been deployed in areas nearby banks and important institutions, according to the DPO.
The local administration has urged the public to adopt alertness when outside of the home.
