"Luiz Felipe Scolari has been dismissed as manager of Chelsea Football Club today (Monday) with immediate effect," said a news post on the website.
The English club, fourth in the Premier League but still having their hopes alive in Champions League and FA Cup, said they took the decision "to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for we felt the only option was to make the change now".
Assistant Coach Ray Wilkins will be in-charge until a successor is appointed. The club said the search for a new manager is on.
World Cup winner Scolari had only been in the job since June 2008, when he became Chelsea´s third boss in a year.
