KATHMANDU, June 27: Science has been the top choice of the students scoring outstanding grade in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), the Grade 10 final examinations, held in March. The results of SEE were published on Monday.

Most of the students who scored highest GPA in the exam say that they would like to pursue their further studies in science. A case in this point is Sabi Bishwakarma who scored A + grade from Ananta Secondary School at Siddhipur Mahalaxmi Municipality in Lalitpur district.

Biswakarma, an orphan, scored GPA 4 in her exam articulated her desire to take up science subject as a major one in her 10 plus 2. Her principal Govinda Sanjel said that the School would assist her in all possible way in this regard by recommending her for scholarship as her teachers want to promote her academic talent.

Furthermore, they do not want her orphan and impoverished family background to be a hindrance for her desire to major in science subject which is slightly expensive in tuition fee compared to other disciplines.

Samridhhi Silwal securing the same grade as Biswakarma in her SEE has already taken a step forward towards fulfilling her desire to study science in her higher studies. She has already submitted her admission form at Saint Xavier's college.

Asked why she chose science for her higher studies, she responded, "Since I am interested in medical sector, I took up science as a major in my further study as it would carve a pathway for that." Also, it is believed that those studying science are diligent students, added the recent graduate.

The bright student, Silwal, following the outstanding results in her recent exam acknowledged that although the teachers and parents play crucial part in ensuring quality education for their pupil and children, it is the students themselves who have to strive for excellence in their studies.

Similarly, Aaradhya Gyawali, one among the 14,234 students securing A+ in the recently held SEE exam received 4:00 GPA from National Model Science School, Gongabu, is preparing to study science subject in grade 11 and 12. Her father Bharatmani Gyawali said her daughter wants to study computer engineering subject in her bachelors and science would be a stepping stone for the same.

Likewise, Anjana Thakur got 3.95 GPA from Bafal-based Gyanodaya Secondary School and chose science for his further studies. Thakur, however, is yet to decide on the college for the same.

At a time when the government has proposed to change the model of curriculum in order to make science and math subjects in grade 11 and 12 as the optional one for the students, most of the students who have scored excellent results in SEE exam were found interested in the study of science, according to Govinda Bhandari, a teacher.

Former Secretary at the Education Ministry, Kishor Thapa, who secured highest marks in School Leaving Certificate examinations (SLC), the former self of SEE, in 2031, argued that it was not necessary that the science be the top of the bright students scoring outstanding marks for their further studies in any context.

Thapa was of the view that such students should/could also opt for political science and involve themselves in political activities and contribute towards prosperity of the country.

Out of 451,532 students taking this year's Secondary Education Examination under regular category held in 2074 BS, 14,234 students had secured A+ grade while 46,130 scored A grade.
