Like previous year, the initiative was taken by District Education Office (DEO), Sindupalchowk with the aim of encouraging children of Thami households to continue their higher studies. The students have also been provided with textbooks and other stationery. [break]
District Education Officer of Sindupalchowk Gehanath Gautam said students from Thami households were enrolled in the school to encourage them to continue studies as most of them drop out before even completing secondary-level education.
“A majority of Thami children get married at an early age. This leaves them with no other choice but to quit studies for work to feed their families. We believe this campaign will encourage them to continue studies,” said Gautam.

According to a survey conducted by the DEO, 127 Thami children in the VDC do not go to school. “We believe this campaign will encourage children from Thami households to continue their studies,” said principal of the school Sitaram Poudel.
Chetnath Ghimire, an official at the DEO, said around 10,920 children in district have been deprived of education. “We will try to enroll all the children through this campaign by next year,” said Ghimire.
The campaign had started from the rural villages of the district last year. Around 320 students from marginalized communities like Majhi and Danuwar have already been enrolled in schools under this campaign. “We have also distributed tiffin boxes, schools bags and water bottles to 1,003 students in the VDC,” said former director the education campaign Mahashram Sharma.
