KATHMANDU, April 29: Supreme Court (SC) on Monday scrapped its earlier interim order against proposed appointment of former chief justice Lokman Singh Karki as head of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
The verdict issued by the joint bench of Justices Girish Chandra Lal and Tarka Raj Bhatta reads that it is not appropriate to continue the earlier interim order as it cannot interfere with the responsibility of constitutional council in premature state. [break]
Advocate Om Prakash Aryal had filed a writ petition stating that the appointment would undermine constitutional provisions, values and aspirations of people’s movement.
The petitioner had sought the apex court intervention as former chief secretary Karki had been earlier declared unfit for government jobs in future and alleged involvement in corruption.
"Going through his (Karki) past records, chances are high his appointment as chief will grant amnesty to corrupt persons while penalize honest ones," the petition reads.
