KATHMANDU, Sept 26:The Supreme Court has asked for a reason for not prosecuting former Prime Minister duo Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai in the Lalita Niwas land-grab scam.


A single bench of Justice Binod Sharma issued a show cause order to the opposition Nepal government, CIB and others. Justice Sharma has also raised questions over the government’s decision not to prosecute the then Chief Secretary Lila Mani Paudyal in this case.

The apex court has ordered the government agency concerned to furnish a written clarification for not prosecuting  Nepal and Dr Bhattarai within 15 days. The court has ordered the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Attorney General Office, District Attorney Office, Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police and Nepal and Dr Bhattarai to furnish the clarification within the stipulated date. 


Senior advocate Balkrishna Neupane had filed a case in the apex court arguing that they were given immunity because of their political influence and access to power.
