SC orders government to ensure safe housing to people

KATHMANDU, March 30: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued mandamus order to the government to make necessary arrangements for ensuring safe housing to all the people living across the country.

The division bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut issued the order and asked the government to set appropriate criteria and code on building construction to ensure safe housing.


Advocates Ananta Raj Luitel and Pabindra Raj Joshi had filed a writ petition demanding court order for ensuring safe housing to all the people arguing that the devastation caused by the earthquake on April 25, 2015 proved that the housing across the country are not safe enough. Advocate Basudev Rijal had also filed separate writ petition demanding the same.
