KATHMANDU, July 11: A three-day South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation ( SAARC) seminar on an agreement for the avoidance of dual taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion began here from Monday.

At the inaugural session, Director General of the Department of Inland Revenue Chudamani Sharma spoke of the need of collective efforts between the government and private sector to grasp opportunities of fiscal transactions in this era of globalization and address its challenges as well.
The sharing of good practices and problems among the SAARC member states would help control tax evasion and fiscal crime rates, he said.
SAARC Secretariat Director Ms L Savithri expressed her hope that the seminar would help further strengthen the diplomatic and economic relations among the SAARC countries. "An agreement on regional investment is a must," she said.
Department Deputy Director Rammani Duwadi and Department Director Chetnath Dahal presented workings papers on Nepal's tax system.
Except Pakistan, representatives from seven other SAARC member states are taking part in the seminar. RSS
