KATHMANDU, Feb 26 : Nepali rupee lost 44 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, shed value against the greenback. Price of gold, on the other hand, increased by Rs 855 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 109.84. Though rupee's remained unchanged on Monday, it depreciated by 20 paisa against US dollar on Tuesday to close at Rs 110.04. Rupee, however, gained 12 paisa on Wednesday to settle at 109.92 against the greenback. On Thursday, rupee lost 8 paisa to close at 110 against US dollar. The local unit shed another 28 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week's trading at 110.28.
Meanwhile, rupee gained 41 paisa against euro and a massive Rs 3.87 against Pound Sterling over the week. On Friday, a euro exchanged at Rs 121.84 while Pound Sterling was valued Rs 153.54.
BULLION
Bullion market opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 47,585 per 10 grams. Though price of gold remained unchanged on Monday, it increased by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 47,755. The yellow metal glittered on Wednesday as well, as its price increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams to Rs 48,010. Though there was no change in gold price on Thursday, it went up by Rs 430 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 48,440.
Price of silver remained unchanged over the week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 630 per 10 grams.
