Ruling parties near consensus on formation of earthquake reconstruction authority

KATHMANDU, June 20: The ruling political parties are learnt to have neared consensus regarding the efforts on formation of the Earthquake Reconstruction Authority.


The two-party meeting taken place at the Prime Minister's official residence, Baluwatar, made its way towards positive direction. Top leaders of both parties including NC Vice President Ramchandra Poudel, CPN (UML) Acting Chairman Bamdev Gautam were present in the meeting.

Talking to the RSS after the meeting, NC Vice-President Poudel said the ruling parties were close to an agreement on forming the Authority through an ordinance.

A four-party meeting held earlier on Saturday at the PM's official residence for the formation of the authority ended without reaching at conclusion. The parties differed on the form of authority, leadership and the time.

Nepali Congress has been pressing to form the authority before the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction slated for June 25.

National Planning Commission's Vice Chairman Dr Govindaraj Pokharel and Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal are giving final touches to the draft relating to the formation of the authority although its announcement is made on the basis of political decision. RSS
