Rule of law at risk: Justice Shrestha

KATHMANDU, May 8: Justice of Supreme Court (SC) Kalyan Shrestha has expressed his dissatisfaction to the increasing culture of violation of law in the country.



"Such culture will challenge the ideals of rule of law," Shrestha said while speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of the Law Day on Tuesday. The government should be serious for rule of law, he added. [break]



On the occasion, the SC justice expressed dissatisfaction to the National Planning Commission for not preparing policy and programmes for the development of judiciary till the 10th planning.



Shrestha said, "Court does not build bridges and roads but plays a role to help construct such structures,"



He also said that implementation of the court´s verdict was government´s duty adding that the government was reluctant to implement the court´s verdicts.



Also speaking on the occasion, senior advocate Sarbagyaratna Tuladhar opined that constitutional court was not needed in the new constitution. "The SC should be made more powerful. Constitutional Court is not needed," he said.
