KATHMANDU, June 5: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has condemned the recent comments made by CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli targeting RSP leader and Education Minister Sumana Shrestha. Oli's statement, which suggested that Shrestha had become a minister after marrying a foreigner, has sparked controversy.
During a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, RSP lawmaker Shishir Khanal criticized Oli's remarks, stating that they undermine the long-standing efforts towards women's and class emancipation in Nepal's politics. Khanal said that Sumana Shrestha's contributions should be respected and not trivialized.
Khanal said that Sumana Shrestha was mischaracterized, stressing that such statements are offensive in a society that worships historical figures like Bhrikuti and Sita.
