Hetauda Drinking Water Management Board has not been able to extract and supply river water after dust from crusher factories and sludge from a cement company got mixed up in the river following Saturday's rainfall. However, the officials on the Board informed that they have managed to supply water to around 5,000 taps from Monday afternoon.
Since the last two years the distribution of drinking water gets halted for at least two to three days during monsoon as the Simari River, from where the Board draws water, gets polluted by the activities of the crusher companies and cement factory.
Acting Chief of the Board, Sudarshan Dhakal, informed that they are not able to distribute drinking water as dust from Aam Bhanjyang Crusher, Sai Baba Aggregate, Sagarmatha Crusher at the bank of the river and waste from Shiwam Cement seep into the river.
Bhandari further added that Shiwam Cement had promised to install boring some seven months ago after locals blamed the company for polluting the river. Bu the company hasn't fulfilled its promise yet.
The Board fetches around 2 million to 2.5 million liters of water everyday using pump for 15 hours.
