Risk reduction fund for poor children

SINDHUPALCHOWK, May 18: Risk reduction fund worth Rs 1.6 million has been established for the education of the poor and helpless children in five village development committees in Sindhupalchowk district.



The fund established by Sunkoshi Tuki Assocaition with money donated by the organizations, village child protection committee and related VDC, is expected to benefit the children of Shikharpur, Sipapokhare, Thulosiruwari, Karthali and Gumthang VDCs. [break]





“Our organization has been working for the education of children since long. The fund has been established to make it even more effective,” said Krishna Prasad Parajuli, program coordinator of the organization. According to him, 10 children per VDC will be provided with scholarship each year.



According to their educational level, the children will be entitled to receive between Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000. Even toddlers who have not yet joined schools will also receive some amount for nutrition. Such children will be selected on the basis of his or her economic condition and health status.



“The fund will be managed by the children protection committee,” Parajuli said.
