Regmi urges leaders to convince anti-poll parties

KATHMANDU, April 6: Interim Election Council Chairman Khil Raj Regmi has urged the top leaders of the major parties to take serious initiatives to persuade the agitating political political parties to join the upcoming elections.



Regmi sought support from the key leaders to bring the dissident forces on board in election process during discussions held at his official residence at Baluwatar on Friday.[break]



The government head sought the leaders´ support in the wake of Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist´s announcement not only to boycott elections but also to disrupt the elections. Maoist cadres have already been hindering the voters´ registration process in several districts.



"Chairman Regmi urged leaders from the four political parties to hold talks with those who have expressing their differing views on coming elections and to take special initiatives to create environment conducive for election," Regmi´s press advisor Bimal Gautam told Republica.



Regmi also urged the dissident political forces to join dialogues with the government and seek solution through negotiations.



According to Raj Kishore Yadav, the chairman of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican, the government head urged the key leaders to make special initiative to convince the agitating parties to join election as CPN-Maoist boycotted talks called by both the government as well as the high-level political committee.
