KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Title contender Reed Model College is playing last two matches on the final day of the 12th Dhorpatan Double League Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
League leader Reed Model will take on third placed New Diamond Academy in the first match while it will face second-placed Armed Police Force (APF) in the final match of the competition. Reed Model had defeated both the teams in the first-leg matches.
Reed has 39 points from 13 matches while APF also has equal points from 14 matches.
Reed Model leads Dhorpatan volleyball
APF’s team manager Bijay KC said that the match against Reed Model will be a matter of prestige. “We have very slim chance of defending the title as producing victory over Reed wont be sufficient to become the champion. We will also have to depend on the result of the match between Reed Model and New Diamond,” said KC.
“As we are going to face Indian teams in the upcoming Indo-Nepal Volleyball Tournament in Nepalgunj, winning against Reed Model studded with Indian players will be a big boost for us,” added KC.
Reed Model had climbed at the top of the points table registering two victories on Friday as it overcame the challenge of host Dhorpatan Training Center and Western Region. Reed Model had edged past host team Dhorpatan 25-8, 25-12, 25-7 while Western Region was defeated in the straight sets of 25-14, 25-12, 25-8.
Reed is fielding seven Indian players including three who has the experience of playing for their national team.
Reed Model’s coach Khum Gaunle said that he is hopeful of the tournament getting a new champion.
“We are very close to becomming the new champion of the tournament. If we replicate our current form on Saturday we can win both of the matches in straight sets,” said coach Gaunle.
In other matches on Friday, New Diamond faced 25-13, 25-27, 25-15, 25-21 defeat to departmental side APF. APF’s spiker Saraswati Chaudhary was declared the woman-of-the-match. In the last match of the day, Police registered 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 win over Tribhuvan Army Club. Spiker Kamana Bista of Police was declared the woman-of-the-match.
