Ramadan festival begins

KATHMANDU, July 12: Ramadan, the important month and festival of Muslims, began on Friday. The festival began with the observing of the moon and will continue for a month. Ramadan falls in the ninth month of the Arabian Calendar and is also called the month of Ramadan. [break]



Under the festival, Muslims observe a fast following sun rise, recite the Quran and namaj and then break the fast only after sun set every day throughout the month.



"Ramadan is the right time for meditation and helping the poor and helpless during this month brings family happiness and prosperity", says Maulana Talukdar at the Kashimire Jame Masjid in Ghantaghar, Kathmandu.



Meanwhile, President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal Kamal Thapa has extended best wishes to all Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of the important fasting festival of Ramadan.



Thapa has also wished that may the festival help expand mutual goodwill, love and unity in the country.



Likewise, CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainali has also wished peace, happiness, prosperity and communal goodwill on the occasion of the beginning of the sacred month of Ramadan of the Muslim community.
