QR code introduced for tech-savvy police services

KARNALI, Nov 22: The Karnali Province Police Office, Surkhet has made public a quick response (QR) code for tech-savvy police services. 


Chief of the office, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bhim Prasad Dhakal unveiled the QR code in Birendranagar, Surkhet on Tuesday. 


He said the QR code was made public to ensure easy access of the citizens to the services. "The code will be used especially to collect grievances, problems and constructive suggestions of the citizens", he further said, "We will provide details whether or not the complaints received through the code were implemented".

DIG Dhakal said posting stickers in 227,424 houses, victims aid programme, interactive patrol, passenger-friendly free application writing, citizen facilitators' mobilization and awareness raising campaign against drug abuse are being carried out under the 'Safe Karnali Special Campaign'. 


With the QR code in place, the citizens here can lodge their complaints on the problems and weaknesses related to law and order from anywhere by using technology". 


He said that the police will keep the name of the complainants secret. The grievances and complaints received through QR code will be categorized as 'most urgent', 'urgent' and 'general' while redressing them. 


The police office will immediately respond to the 'most urgent' complaints while it may take three days to investigate and impart details on urgent cases and five days on general cases, he informed. 


The use of QR code is expected to bring citizen-state engagement closer, increase public trust in the security, deliver services effectively and sort out troubles in service delivery. 


According to the office, 7,262 people benefited from the interactive patrol, 200,000 from the passenger-friendly campaign and 1,565 from the free application writing programme.
