KATHMANDU, May 4: Prohibitory orders in the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley that are in force for a week since April 29 have been extended by one more week.

A meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts held on Tuesday afternoon decided to extend the ongoing restriction orders by another week owing to the rising number of coronavirus cases in recent days.

With this, the orders will remain in place until midnight, May 12.

According to Prem Prasad Bhattarai, CDO of Bhaktapur district, the implementation of the orders will be tightened in the second phase in order to restrict the movement of people except for emergency purposes. “Food shops and groceries will be allowed to operate only between 7AM and 9AM from tomorrow onward,” he told Republica over the phone.

Similarly, banks and financial institutions and government offices will be run by only one-fourth of the total staff, according to Bhattarai.
