JANAKPURDHAM, Sept 9: Responding to escalating tensions arising from clashes during the immersion of the Krishna Janmashtami idol, the local administration in Sarlahi has enforced a prohibitory order in Malangawa-- the district headquarter-- on Saturday.

The clashes unfolded on Friday evening when two communities clashed and engaged in stone-throwing while returning from the Krishna Janmashtami idol immersion. In response, police intervened by using 16 canisters of tear gas and one round of aerial fire.

The local administration swiftly organized an all-party meeting and called for the promotion of ethnic and religious harmony. Despite the situation returning to normal late on Friday night, tensions persisted, with reports of burning tires and stone-throwing incidents in Malangwa on Saturday morning.

Chief of District Police Office, Sarlahi, SP Nareshraj Subedi explained that the prohibitory order was issued due to ongoing demonstrations and continued stone-throwing incidents that had not subsided. The prohibitory ordered, he noted, enforced from 4 PM on Saturday will be in place until 8 AM on Sunday.

Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav said that the ban was imposed to address security concerns.

As a consequence of the demonstrations and stone-throwing incidents, businesses and markets in Malangwa remained closed, and both local and long-distance vehicles originating from Malangwa were unable to operate throughout the morning.
