Process to bring Melamchi water to Kathmandu needs to be expedited: MP Singh

KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Nepali Congress leader Prakashman Singh, who has been elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-1, has said that bringing water from the Melamchi river in Sindhupalchowk to Kathmandu needs to be carried out systematically with priority.

KATHMANDU, Dec 2: Nepali Congress leader Prakashman Singh, who has been elected to the House of Representatives from Kathmandu-1, has said that bringing water from the Melamchi river in Sindhupalchowk to Kathmandu needs to be carried out systematically with priority.


Speaking to the media after visiting Melamchi on Thursday, Singh said that the locals told that the government was not interested in the national pride project, which has cost billions of rupees, and said that in the coming days, the federal government should play a role in systematically bringing water from Melamchi to the Kathmandu Valley.

He said, "Even after spending so many years and billions of rupees, we have not been able to complete the project of national pride."


He also said that after sending water to Kathmandu, 25 percent of the money collected should be given to the local municipalities". “After sending Melamchi’s water to Kathmandu, the municipality should get 25 percent of the money raised," he said.
