KATHMANDU, Feb 16: The Home Ministry formed an investigation committee to probe the balloon explosion incident in Pokhara.
On Sunday morning, a ministerial-level decision appointed an eight-member investigation committee, with Kaski Chief District Officer Bharatmani Pandey as the chief.

Pokhara Metropolitan City's Chief Administrative Officer Shiva Raj Chaulagai, Kaski's Chief of Police, Superintendent of Police Shyam Babu Oliya, Chief of the 24th Armed Police Battalion Headquarters, Superintendent of Armed Police Surya Prasad Timilsina, Deputy Investigation Director of the National Investigation District Office Suresh Kumar Tiwari, and Kaski's Assistant Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri are the members of the committee. Ganga Bahadur Chhetri has been nominated as member secretary of the committee that will also include one expert on explosives.
The committee must submit its report within 15 days.
A hydrogen gas-filled balloon explosion injured Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel and Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya during the inauguration of Visit Pokhara Year on Saturday. The incident occurred when they pressed an electric switch during the balloon release ceremony at the event held at Pokhara Stadium.
Minister Paudel and Mayor Acharya were airlifted on Saturday afternoon and are receiving treatment at Kirtipur Burn Hospital.
