KATHMANDU, March 6: Around 4,000 private and community higher secondary schools across the country have been shutdown today following the closure called by the Higher Secondary Teachers´ Association Nepal (HISTAN).

The HISTAN shutdown the higher secondary schools putting forth different demands including seeking permanent status to teachers working in higher secondary schools, permanent affiliation to the higher secondary schools, among others.

According to Chairman of the HISTAN, Deepak Subedi they were compelled to shutdown the academic institutions due to government´s apathy to implement the past agreements.

A taskforce formed under the chair of then State Minister for Education Govinda Chaudhary had submitted a report regarding the issues of higher secondary schoolteachers some two years ago.

Likewise, Department of Education has urged the teachers to sit for talks by withdrawing all protest programs.
