NAWALPARASI, Oct 3: Nawalparasi Prison has urged public not to provide shelter to inmates who escaped from the facility last month.

A total of 546 prisoners fled the prison on September 10, following the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9. Some of them have since returned to custody. The prison administration has appealed to the public not to help the escapee hide or  provide shelter.

“If anyone is found to have sheltered or hidden the escapees, they too will be considered offenders and face legal action,” said prison warden Bikal Shrestha.

The prison has asked inmates who have not yet returned to report back by October 6. “Those failing to do so will be punished in accordance with the Prison Act 2022 and existing laws,” Shrestha said.

So far, 251 inmates—219 men and 32 women—have returned to the prison, according to the prison administration.
