Prime Minister's Office becomes economical, cuts down expenses

According to this directive, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has taken steps to reduce its annual expenses, resulting in positive outcomes.

KATHMANDU, July 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has issued a directive to ensure that public expenditure is productive, economical, and rational, with expectations of positive results following its implementation. 



According to this directive, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has taken steps to reduce its annual expenses, resulting in positive outcomes.


In the last Fiscal Year (FY), expenditures in the areas of fuel, communications, vehicle repairs, office supplies, and miscellaneous expenses were significantly reduced compared to the previous FY.

Compared to the FY 2080/081 BS, the OPMCM office has cut expenses under various headings in 2081/082, resulting in a savings of 20.64 million.


A comparative study of the expenses of the OPMCM in the FY 2080/081 BS and 2081/082 BS shows that there were savings in miscellaneous expenses, in monitoring and evaluation, and in the purchase of office supplies and office equipment.


The expenditure of the OPMCM during the tenure of PM KP Sharma Oli was less than that of PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Overall, the expenditure of the OPMCM during the Oli tenure was reduced by 33.27 percent compared to Dahal's tenure. 


The OPMCM has spent more on the monitoring and evaluation expenditure heading in the last FY than in the previous FY. A total of 2.194 million was spent in the FY  2080/81 BS, while 3.352 million was spent in the FY 2081/82 BS.


Meanwhile, other ministries and responsible officials have also been held accountable for cutting down expenses. 


It may be noted that the government has been giving high priority to good governance and governance reforms since the formation of a high-level governance reforms commission under the leadership of the PM. 


Furthermore, the current government has been giving high priority to cutting public expenditure and increasing the development budget to improve the situation of the economy.
