KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) - Nepal, Kamal Thapa on Friday accused President Ram Baran Yadav of assisting major political parties to avoid new election by providing unnecessary deadline to forge a consensus government.

He made the accusation during a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday to inform about the party´s chariot procession program which the party says aims to strengthen religious harmony and national unity. [break]

“The political parties that failed to form consensus government in the last five years, neither can form consensus government within the deadline nor hold the election within mid-April,” he said.

If political parties wanted to go for fresh elections that were free and fair, then they should choose a prime minister from among the incumbent Chief Justice or former Chief Justices, he added. Thapa also said the president should amend the interim constitution and the electoral laws together as they were necessary to hold elections and to break the political deadlock.

He also said there were chances of revival of monarchy in the country on the ground of geopolitical situation and socio cultural structure of the country. He demanded referendum on federalism, Hindu as state religion and monarchy in the country.

The party will organize a 10-day chariot procession starting from Janakpur which will travel through 22 districts of central and western Nepal, including Lumbini and Bindabasini in Pokhara, before ending at the Pashupatinath Temple.
