Pradhan was elected to the post by securing 519 votes against 481 votes secured by his rival Rajan KC. Pradhan was vice president in the outgoing committee.[break]
There were 1,037 votes cast in the election held at Bhrikuti Mandap. Sixteen votes were declared invalid.
Pradhan was backed by NC leaders Narahari Acharya, Suprabha Ghimire, Gagan Thapa, Tirtha Ram Dangol, Lokesh Dhakal and Dhyan Gobinda Ranjit. NC Vice President Prakash Man Singh had lobbied for KC.
The voting between KC and Pradhan was held after none of three contenders including Lokesh Dhakal failed to garner the required simple majority (51 percent of total votes) in the first round of election held on Thursday.
Uncertainty in Siraha, Jajarkot
Meanwhile, district conventions of the party have become uncertain in Siraha and Jajarkot districts following dispute between cadres belonging to two factions of the party.
In Jajarkot, the convention was put off after cadres of Deuba factions opposed candidacy of Sanat Kumar Karki and Dipak Jung Shah saying that their party membership was annulled after they contested as rebel candidates in the general elections of 2056 BS.
Likewise, the convention in Siraha has been put off indefinitely after cadres of former district committee president Sita Devi tore apart ballot papers during a voting held on Friday.
Bajura office torched
An unidentified group torched NC district office in Bajura. It is still not clear as to who were involved in the incident, according to the police.
On Sunday, an identified group had torched a room in the office building. Disgruntled party cadres had also vandalized the party office three days ago. Police have arrested three party cadres involved in the incident.
