With the fresh revision, feed for broiler chicken has increased by Rs 4 per kg to the prince range of Rs 44.90 to Rs 45.60 per kg. Price of feed for layers has also been increased by Rs 3 per kg. Feed for layers chicken is presently selling in range of Rs 38.40 to Rs 42.10 per kg.[break]
Rabindra Prasad Sipkhen, president of Poultry Entrepreneurs´ Association of Kavre, said feed producers are unilaterally increasing feed prices adding fresh burden on poultry farmers who are already hit by rising production cost.
“Most of the farmers are in a difficult condition because prices of poultry products such as chicken and eggs don´t go up in proportion to feed prices,” said Sipkhen.
Hem Chandra Shah, past president of the association, said he would bring down the number of chicken in his farm to around 4,000 heads from existing 10,000 heads if feed prices continued to increase.
Feed producers, however, have defended their decision. “We have no option but to raise feed prices because prices of raw materials have hit the roof,” Rabin Puri, general secretary of Nepal Feed Industries Association, said.
