Yatra, in collaboration with Water Aid Nepal, is organizing a poster-making competition for students of different colleges and universities and a craft- making competition for the primary and secondary school children.
To enter the poster-making competition, each participant had to send a short abstract of around 150 words on the theme ´Solution for future: Youth for basic sanitation and water crisis´. The best 10 abstracts were then selected and were invited on Saturday, March 13, for a workshop on poster presentation.
Each of these teams consist of 3 members - out of which, at least one member must be a girl. The final posters will be collected on March 18 and then will be exhibited in the Thapathali bridge, Sankhamul bridge, and Teku bridge.
"These presentations will also be presented at Tundhikhel on the actual day. A photo exhibition showcasing the problems of sanitation faced by Nepal during the diaohrrea outbreak in Jajarkot and Rukkum will take place," says Dipesh Joshi, vice-president of Yatra adding, "There will also be a concert organized and different leaders will be invited to talk about this issue which matters the most to us. Overall, we want to send out a message to everyone that clean water is our right and there must be proper sanitation in every part of Nepal, to have a safer Nepal."
Water Aid is launching a worldwide event on March 20-22 called ´The World´s Longest Toilet Queue´. The inauguration of this campaign is on March 20 with a candle light vigil.
There will also be different side events including a mini-queue in front of Teaching Hospital. Similar events in other districts of Nepal will also take place.
"Water aid aims not to have a repetition of Jajarkot and Rukkum´s problem in the future. We also want there to be greater political responsibility," says Sikkha Shrestha.
The event hosted by Water Aid Nepal is part of their campaign called ´Sanitation and Water for All´. Other partners for this event are EWC Nepal, End Water Poverty Nepal, Fresh Water Action Nepal and WASH Chapter of Nepal. Yatra and many other organizations including various disabled youth networks are actively taking part in the pre and side events.
Yatra is a youth-based organization founded in 2004 and has been working in the field of environment and climate change. It is an active member of Association of Youth Organizations Nepal. They have always been organizing unique events such as ´changa chait´ and ´monsoon hike´.
