DHANGADI, July 27: Tensions flared at Nova Hospital in Dhangadi following the death of a 17-year-old youth, leading to a confrontation with the police.

Relatives of Nasib Chaudhary, a resident of Kanchanpur Belauri who was admitted to the hospital on July 22 for jaundice, claimed that his death was caused due to negligence of the hospital. In response, they attempted to vandalize the facility by throwing stones.

To contain the violence, the police fired three rounds of tear gas. Chief of Dhangadhi District Police Office SP Padam Bahadur Bista explained that the tear gas was used after the crowd began pelting stones. The situation has since calmed, and the hospital is currently engaged in negotiations with the agitating victim family.

Chaudhary, who passed away at 3 PM on Friday, was initially treated at the hospital but was later requested to be transferred to either Nepalgunj or Bareilly, India. He died en route to Nepalgunj at 3:30 PM while being transported by ambulance.

The deceased's relatives have refused to accept the body, alleging negligence and demanding action and compensation from the hospital. Despite ongoing discussions since Friday evening, no agreement has yet been reached between the hospital administration and the victim family.
