Police headquarters rejects DIG Chand’s resignation

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Police headquarters has rejected the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Arjun Chand as the security chief of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Police headquarters has rejected the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Arjun Chand as the security chief of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).


According to sources, the head office did not accept his resignation letter stating that the process and format of resignation did not meet the required structures.


DIG Chand resigned last Friday. The resignation letter was sent to the Human Resource Department of the Police Headquarters on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, DIG Chand met IGP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, who happens to be his batchmate. During the meeting, IGP Kunwar suggested that he withdraw his resignation.


Likewise, other AIGs also suggested DIG Chand to reconsider his resignation.


DIG Chand is on leave after the IGP and AIG suggested him not to resign. 


"He is on a seven to eight days’ of leave," said a source at the police headquarters. "After the leave, he will return on duty."


DIG Chand resigned after the inquiry committee formed by the government to probe the incident of the fight between an immigration officer and police personnel stationed at the airport recommended action against the police personnel.
