The incident has shown that sugar is being smuggled from various places in eastern Terai through the BP highway connecting Kavrepalanchowk headquarters to Dhulikhel. A joint team of Nepal Police and Traffic Police seized 10 quintals of illegally brought sugar from a vehicle during a traffic check at Kavre Bhanjyang located in Dhulikhel-9 under the BP highway in the first week of November.
Similarly, in mid-October, the police seized 92 sacks of sugar from Panauti through the same highway and seized the truck. After the discovery of illegally imported sugar during routine vehicle checks on the BP highway, authorities have intensified inspections of regular means of transport to curb sugar smuggling.
