PM tells ministers to be ready to quit

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has told the members of his cabinet on Monday to remain prepared to quit the government anytime.



The prime minister´s told this on the same day after the major political parties stated that they are close to forging consensus on forming a new government for holding fresh CA election. [break]



Bhattarai told this at a cabinet meeting held Monday while responding to enquiries from ministers.



“Though the political parties are yet to reach agreement on forming a new government, please remain prepared to leave your offices as the parties could reach consensus anytime,” a minister quoted the prime minister as saying at the cabinet meeting.



Bhattarai also stated that he is prepared to quit office following the latest political development.



According to ministers present at the meeting, Bhatatrai informed them that the new government will be formed under the incumbent chief justice. “We are also trying to forge consensus on accommodating only independent persons in the new cabinet to be formed under the leadership of the chief justice,” the minister quoted Bhattarai as saying at the meeting.



Meanwhile, the cabinet meeting appointed former secretary Shreeram Poudel as coordinator of the Policy Investigation Academy (PIA) and former Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dipendra Purush Dhakal and Professor Mahendra Singh as members of the academy. Earlier, the government had decided to form PIA with a view to develop it as a think tank.



According to Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Eknath Dhakal, the cabinet meeting also allowed the Investment Board to collect funds to proceed with ´national pride projects´. Likewise, the government has decided to name Narayanghat-Muglin road section as Ram Raja Prasad Singh Lokmarga.
