Opening the general convention of Gas Dealers´ Federation of Nepal here Saturday, the Prime Minister said the government is planning to manage different coloured LP gas cylinders for business and household purposes from October 17 and sought cooperation from gas dealers to this end. [break]
The purpose of differentiating the colour of cooking gas is to make its supply easier, more systematic and disciplined, he said.
Sometime consumers could not get cooking gas easily due to an increasing price of LP gas in the international market and black marketing, said the Prime Minister.
Also speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shamser Rana demanded that the government should give a discount on vat on petroleum products with implementation of security standards.
Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) leader Lekhraj Bhatta stressed the government should come with a clear policy regarding the supply of petroleum products with a focus on production of alternative energy.
Government Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudel said the government has been incurring a loss of five billion in the supply of cooking gas every year, promising action against those causing obstructions in its smooth supply. He pledged elaborate measures to control irregularities in the supply of petroleum products.
Federation President Gyaneshwor Aryal opined that Nepal Oil Corporation´s monopoly on supplying the petroleum products should be end and pipelines be installed to transport petroleum products from border area.
Presently, the number of gas dealers in Nepal stands at 12,000 and 1.2 million households use the cooking gas, it is learnt.
